Machine Lights by Franke Buchwald
Berlin Based Light Designer Frank Buchwald designs and manufacture a series of exclusively hand-made light sculpture in Machine lights series. This series comprises of 12 different models produced in low volume production. Each object is manually produced from up to 200 individual parts, Therefore giving each light a unique design.
In the manufacturing process Steel and brass parts produced from raw steel and brass, burnished by hand, creating a black surface structure with a brownish hue. A smooth fine finish is given to the brass parts and the steel parts are treated with silky matt finish.
Frank Buchwald has a special focus on to design a perfect custom-made item as each of his light is hand crafted at his Studio in Berlin. Special models can be designed and produced on request. Frank is also a freelancer painter and illustrator. He started his own company in 1993 giving the service if interior design and manufacture of furniture and lights. since 2002 he is working on light objects. As he says “working on the machine lights was a guarantor and a constantly new examination of something hidden that interweaves and shapes the sphere of the machine like a secret principle”
